1. The basic principles of choosing or omitting content.
The outlook of database is very much international. English is used as being a broadly understood language. Text is kept to a minimum, in short remarks, and in the menu of the database.
The database covers at present the years from 1965 to 2008. onward. It is intended to cover the era from the end of World War II, the beginning of the modern history of football. And of course every year last year’s information is entered in the database.
As for comprehensiveness we intend to incorporate the players, clubs and countries who have made the history of football.
Focusing on the best players in the world has made us set the limit at all international, capped players of the “A” teams, (and in some cases the Olympic teams, in cases where it arguably is the strongest national selection). Besides these players we feature the uncapped players of the top clubs that in our view complete the picture of the players who made the history of football..
Speaking of clubs we have drawn the limit at those playing at the highest national level. This means some clubs through the years fall out of or come (back) into consideration.
As to which countries to include or not to include the guiding principle is to focus on the countries that have in the past and present shaped and continue to shape the history of international football. This is of course an ever changing picture that will need adjusting from time to time.
Limited time and lack of information here also play their part. As for now we have included the European countries with the exception of the small and very small football powers that mostly have never qualified for a major final international tournament. Of the American continent the foremost South American footballing countries have been included leaving out (as yet) Equador, Bolivia and Venezuela. From Northern and Central America only Mexico figures as yet. The rising footballing nations of Africa, Asia and Oceania are yet to be included.
2. Illustration.
The imagery and pageantry of club colours and national colours, reflected in outfits and emblems, and their development through the years, are essential to any football enthousiast. It is therefore part of the intended layout of our database. We present an impression of a player in club outfit, and have advanced so far to present all national teams and clubs from western and mediterranean Europe.
In this respect shirt sponsoring is a hard nut to crack. The representation of shirt sponsoring in drawings of players in club outfits has been left out for esthetical and obvious legal reasons. With many commentators and writers we do abhor the ruining of traditional club shirts by depicting company and brand names. The brands of outfits are sometimes better recognizable than the club’s identity in colours and emblems. On the other hand the football shirt without sponsors’ names nowadays looks in some way empty and outdated. Included are the club and national team outfit or outfits considered to be the most typical.
For obvious legal reasons we have not included club emblems.
3. Typographical restrictions.
We have refrained from representing a number of diacritic signs used in Polish, Czech, Slovakian, Hungarian, Romanian, Serbian, Croatian, Slovenian, Bosnian and Turkish. Reason is that using non standard signs might lead to misrepresentation of texts depending on user’s computers.
For originally Cyrillic and Greek names a transcription has been used derived from the English.

The use of credits is made visible on screen for the user.
For those “heavy users” or institutions that would want the use of the database on a larger scale for their members or clients I am open to suggestions for special arrangements. (If a search would cover more than 10 years, then an extra credit will be deducted from your account for every 10 years period. TAILOR MADE INFORMATION ON REQUEST BY E-MAIL
The content of the database rests solidly in my collection of football books, annuals, and magazines from all over the world, to which has come to be added information published online on the Internet. My collection includes materials in languages ranging from English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese to some Slavic and Northern European languages. These materials contain a huge amount of extra factual information, special perspective, image, detail and anecdote impossible to represent in the database.
I am willing to respond by e-mail to registered user’s requests of information from these sources. In some cases the database will not provide a piece of information on your wanted list, that I could provide this way. In another case the database would hint to subjects that trigger your interest to some deeper delving.
As for now I welcome requests at a price of 5 euro, including 19% VAT, for a straight search of information taking no longer than 4 hours, on no cure no pay.basis.
